Amabié Figurine - A Symbol of Hope

$200.00

This is an homage to Amabié.

She was witnessed off the coast of Kumamoto Prefecture in Japan in the late 19th century. It is said that she gave her name, prophesied a good upcoming harvest, and said, "Should an epidemic come, draw me and show me to the people." A sketch was published in 1846 of a mermaid-like creature, covered in scales, with a bird-like head and long, flowing locks of hair.

She is a symbol of hope and connection, a reminder that humanity has endured pandemics before and this one too shall pass. Creating images of Amabié and sharing them with others is one way that we can connect across the globe, cheer each other up, and maybe even feel less alone.

I sculpted her by hand with a custom-blended polymer compound blended with iridescent mica that has a subtle sparkle and marbling. Her eyes are glass and she stands just over 5-inches tall.

You will receive the exact same figurine in the photos, and it is ready-to-ship. The package will be on the way within three business days of purchase.
